This example is an indoor ladder with a smooth yet slightly eroded patina, possibly from placement near a cooking fire. Indoor versions wear to a smooth glossy finish, while outdoor versions develop a deeply weathered patina. A naturally forked tree is the raw material for Dogon and Lobi ladders.
