Possibly a charm as the figure is worn from handling. This powerful, cubist figure is a great example of the intense emotions that crudely carved African figures can portray. The female projects a solid, steady, indomitable spirit at the same time exuding reliability, reassurance, comfort and quiet. For me, this is the more powerful side of the charm.
The male is quieter, yet still strong. In a sentinel pose, standing by, lending assured support and backup.

The two figures make a powerful talisman in any culture.
