Petrified wood is a fossilized organic representation of the original vegetation.

Minerals present during the crystallization process give fossilized wood a variety of color ranges. Pure quartz crystals are colorless and when elements such as carbon, manganese, iron, and copper are present in the process, they result in colors from black to red to cream.
