Exhibition: William Roan’s Curious Beasties
Come and See Bill’s Vision of Trolls and Their Ilk
1495 Custer Avenue,
San Francisco
Show Dates
Nov. 16 – Dec. 24
Among his many accomplishments, William Roan is most famous for creating the original San Francisco Bay Bridge Troll. Bill created a talisman for bridge travelers after the Loma Prieta earthquake (October 17, 1989) damaged the bridge and brought formerly unknown anxieties to the passage. The charm was surreptitiously welded to the final replacement section, at the very last moment, so as to avoid being discovered by those that worry about all sorts of devilry. The attempts at secrecy were foiled by Paula Drake of KCBS News radio who was on hand for the final installation.
Our gallery is in the Custer Avenue Galleries building in the Islais Creek area just south of Dog Patch. We are open Monday – Saturday, 11am – 5pm; closed Sunday.
